Formed in 1998 in the coastal town of Port Elizabeth, South Africa, the members of The Benjamin Gate were brought together by the desire to honor a close friend named Ben, who was suddenly and tragically killed in a car accident. Through these meetings, they wrote songs expressing their sadness for the loss of their friend, but also demonstrated their strong faith while discovering a partnership that would create one of the freshest and most original voices in modern rock music.
Their music is intense, emotional, energetic, and deeply spiritual. Fronted by the strong and sassy, Adrienne Liesching, The Benjamin Gate has developed a style that is uniquely theirs, and ignores all boundaries of musical genre. With nothing but a dream and a lot of determination, The Benjamin Gate left the comfort of their homes in South Africa and invaded the United States with the aspiration to make a difference in the world through their music.
Signing with Forefront Records, The Benjamin Gate went into the studio and recorded their first stateside release, untitled. This debut put The Benjamin Gate on the map, spawning three #1 rock singles, and drawing masses of critical acclaim.
Their second outing, Contact, continues where untitled left off. As untitled took the listener on a Euro-pop-rock journey, Contact went a step further and took a more alternative musical direction with less focus on electronica and more focus on a wider range of sounds and styles. Lead singer Liesching's voice is stronger and more mature than on the band's debut release, mainly due to relentless, consistent touring. Although The Benjamin Gate's second album highlights Adrienne's dramatic vocals, Contact emerged as a very distinctive band project, with driving drum and bass rhythms and effectual guitar sounds forming the foundation for incredibly melodic vocal hooks, all trademarks and signatures of The Benjamin Gate.
